Author Bio

Marilyn Kay’s crime fiction writing career launched in 2017 when her short story won a place in the Bouchercon World Mystery Conference’s anthology, Passport to Murder. Since then, she has published three other stories in crime anthologies. She is currently seeking representation for her novel, Love Thy Neighbor, which explores love, hate, diversity and belonging from the viewpoint of a rookie homicide detective and her partner as they investigate white domestic terrorism after the death of a Toronto imam. Her manuscript is a Killer Nashville Finalist for Best Investigator.
Long before her fiction writing, Marilyn was a freelance journalist. She then joined an outstanding and diverse group of communicators at the WCB/WSIB, where she worked on programs such as Safe Communities and managed the WSIB’s first full-scale website. Later, as the communications officer for Ontario’s Child Welfare Secretariat, she received an Amethyst Award for the team’s contribution to child welfare reform. Themes of diversity, youth and community continue to influence all her writing.
Marilyn is a professional member of the Crime Writers of Canada, Sisters in Crime and the Mesdames of Mayhem collective. When she’s not engaged in creating murder and mayhem, she lives happily in Toronto with her husband, reads voraciously and FaceTimes with her daughter in the UK, under whose tutelage, Marilyn—to her surprise— has morphed into a Swiftie.
